Guinea Bissau • context

Guinea Bissau plays a key role for Italian Cooperation, although it is not a priority country, being in a strategic geographical area as regards the migration flows taking place from West Africa to North Africa and Europe. Given the programmatic priorities and the guidelines of the Italian Cooperation guidelines, support is regularly provided for the macro sector of human development in the country.

In particular, projects have recently been approved that aim at the development of the agricultural sector, the educational sector, the health protection system and the promotion of the role of women, to encourage the development of an inclusive society.

The Italian Cooperation operates in Guinea Bissau mainly through projects promoted by Italian NGOs, as well as through interventions on the multilateral channel with United Nations agencies.
